Asia-Pacific Group backs India’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the UN

United Nations, Jun 26 : In a major diplomatic win for India, all 55 members of the Asia-Pacific Group at UN unanimously endorsed India’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for two-year term.

Elections for five non-permanent members of the 15-nation Council for the 2021-22 term will be held around June next year.

"A unanimous step. Asia-Pacific Group at the UN unanimously endorses India’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for two-year term in 2021-22," India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin said in a tweet. "Thanks to all 55 members for their support," the Ambassador further wrote. (UNI)
