Trump to visit South Korea on June 29

Agency News

Seoul, Jun 24 : US President Donald Trump will pay a two-day official visit to South Korea on Saturday for a summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

The meeting between President Moon and Trump will take place 80 days after the last South Korea-US summit in Washington last April, Blue House spokesperson Ko Min-jung said. President Trump's second visit to South Korea comes 19 months after his first visit in November 2017.

The spokesperson said that Trump's visit comes at the invitation of President Moon who invited him during their last summit in April. The two Presidents will discuss closely the means of close coordination between the two countries to consolidate their existing alliance to build sustainable peace through achieving full nuclear dismantlement on the Korean Peninsula, QNA quoted the spokesperson as saying.

For his part, Trump has held two meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the first in Hanoi in February and the second in Singapore in June 2018, where US attempted to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear arsenal. Washington has demanded that North Korea disarm its nuclear weapons before international sanctions are lifted, which Pyongyang rejects. (UNI)
