Riyadh, June 14: Saudi Arabia has agreed with the United States statement on Iran’s involvement in the attacks on vessels in the Gulf of Oman, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al Jubeir said.
Two tankers were hit by explosions in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday. While the cause of the blasts remains unknown, US State Secretary Mike Pompeo claimed, citing assessment based on intelligence, that Iran was behind the attack.
"It is the assessment of the United States government that the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for the attacks that occurred in the Gulf of Oman today," Pompeo said on Thursday.
The attacks on the ships are part of a “campaign” of “escalating tension” by Iran and a threat to international peace and security, Pompeo said. US diplomats have raised the issue of the alleged Iran involvement in the attack at the United Nations Security Council. (UNI)
