India and Maldives to work on mutually beneficial partnership: MEA

Male, June 8 : India and Maldives will work on mutually beneficial partnership and expand the ties across multiple sectors, MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said on Saturday.

"Mutually beneficial partnership. Warm discussions marked the meeting between PM Narendra Modi & President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Focus on further deepening our special relationship by expanding cooperation across sectors," he tweeted after two sides held bilateral talks.Prime Minister Modi arrived here on first overseas visit after winning the recent elections.

Mr Modi on his maiden overseas visit to Maldives after elections on Saturday presented a cricket bat to the Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih."Connected by cricket. Earlier in the day, Maldives President Solih announced conferring of highest honour accorded to foreign dignitaries, 'The Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen', on Mr Modi. (UNI)
