MOSCOW, May 14 : Russia and the European Union are continuing their talks regarding the enforcement of a joint agreement that is supposed to facilitate visa issuance procedures, Deputy Director of the Consular Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexei Utkin told reporters on Tuesday.
"Russia continues to negotiate with the European Union in terms of control over compliance with the agreement on the facilitation of the visas issuance procedure. We hold meetings annually, try to improve status of our citizens in terms of obtaining Schengen visas," Utkin said during a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.
Utkin also recalled that the European Union continued to require travelers to obtain their Schengen visas at the embassy of the country of first entry. The agreement between Russia and the European Union to facilitate the issuance of visas was signed in the Russian resort city of Sochi in 2006 and entered into force in 2007. (SPUTNIK)
