Lahore, May 8: Pakistan's ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was out on a six-week bail for medical treatment, left his home on Tuesday evening, after breaking his fast, to reach the Kot Lakhpat jail, his daughter Maryam Nawaz announced.
Ms Maryam, who accompanied the former Prime Minister, took to micro-blogging site Twitter, to break the news. She also posted a video, which shows a large number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers and supporters gathering outside the residence of the party chief in Jati Umra.
Hamza Shehbaz, one of the 15 vice presidents of PML-N, is driving the former prime minister to the Lahore jail. The Supreme Court on May 3 had dismissed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nwaz (PML-N) supremo’s review petition, seeking permanent bail on medical grounds and the permission to go abroad for treatment.
On March 26, he was granted six weeks bail on medical grounds.Stringent security measures were in place at Mr Sharif's residence, when Kot Lakhpat officials, headed by Jail Superintendent Shehzad, reached the place. (UNI)
