Oil tanker explodes in Niger, leaving 55 dead

Niamey, May 6 : An oil tanker exploded near the Diori Hamani International Airport (NIM) here on Monday, killing over 55 people and injuring at least 30, official reports confirmed.

According to BBC, a tanker had overturned near the main airport. When people started collecting fuel from the tanker, it exploded, leaving more than 50 dead. At least 30 people have been taken to hospital, the agency quoted Director General of Niger's civil protection, Col Maj Boubacar Bako, as saying.  Prime Minister Brigi Rafini and several other Ministers had visited the scene and also went to see some of the injured in hospital.
