Pulwama: Top commander among 4 militants killed

Srinagar, Apr 1: Four local militants of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT), including a top commander, were killed and four security force personnel were injured in a fierce encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Monday, official sources said.

The slain militants were identified as Zaffar Ahmad Paul, a top commander of LeT, who was involved in a number of militancy related incidents in south Kashmir. Paul was active in the area for the past one year, they said, adding the other militants were identified as Toufeeq, Ashfaq and Aquib Dar.

Officials said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at 2am in the wee hours of Monday following a tip-off about the presence of militants at village Lassipora in Pulwama. UNI
