Baghdad, Mar 21: At least 45 people died on Thursday when a ferry sank in Tigris river near the Iraqi city of Mosul.
According to Aljazeera report, the overloaded ferry is believed to be ferrying around 200 people.
The passengers were celebrating the holiday of Nowruz, which marks the Kurdish New Year and the arrival of spring.
Most of the casualties were women and children who could not swim, Husam Khalil, the head of Mosul's Civil Defence Authority said as quoted by a news agency.
However, scores have been rescued and operations are still on, a media report said. (UNI)
