Colombia plane crash: Death toll rises to 14

Bogota, Mar 10: With the death of two pilots, the toll of Colombia plane crash rose to 14, said the country's Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics on Sunday.

The DC-3 aircraft crashed, killing all the 12 people aboard along with two pilots. Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority said the DC-3 aircraft had declared an emergency on Saturday morning while en route to Villavicencio.

The plane was identified as a Douglas DC-3 registered at the airport in the city of Villavicencio. "We regret the accident of the aircraft that covered the route San Jose del Guaviare and Villavicencio," tweeted the civil aviation agency.

The tragedy occurred in the department of Meta. The plane reportedly carried nine passengers and three crew members, including the mayor of Taraira, a municipality located in the southeastern province of Vaupes, Sputnik reported.

The crashed plane belonged to Laser airline. Authorities have launched an investigation into the causes of the accident, said the agency. UNI
