Bangladesh: Foreign investors will get customized support, says FM Momen

Agency News

Dhaka, Feb 26 : Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said the foreign ministry has established a dedicated division to provide customized support for all foreign investors, including NRB or PBO investors.

"We hope that you all would be encouraged by such investment-friendly environment and be partners of our development journey on a win-win basis," he said at a gathering titled International Convention of the NRB Engineers at a city hotel.

The division dealing with investment, trade and technology has been established to realize Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s vision of economic diplomacy, he added.

Momen was speaking a session on ‘Enabling Environment in Bangladesh for NRBs’ at the gathering that was inaugurated by the Prime Minister this morning.

He said the government is also developing a system for Digital Consular Service for all Bangladeshis both at home and abroad. It would have a dedicated ‘window’ for NRB investors in the system to serve them better, he said.

A conducive and enabling environment has been created for involving NRBs in the country’s development process by creating a number of investment authorities and bodies and bringing changes in the relevant laws as well as establishing One-Stop-Service for ease of doing business, he said.

The foreign minister urged NRBs to consider a huge area of ocean for their investment as Bangladesh successfully negotiated with India and Myanmar to demarcate its maritime boundary.

Now we’ve a huge area of ocean that can be exploited and explored for investment and economic benefits. This is one important area where NRBs can also consider for potential investment, he said.

He said the foreign ministry has a dedicated division to deal with maritime issues, including investment in the blue seas. In this connection, I like to add that we are working closely with the European Union to explore huge resources in our Economic Zones in the sea, he said.

Noting that non-resident Indians and non-resident Chinese contributed hugely towards advancing their respective countries to their current stage of development, he said, Now, it is time for you to be active partners of our development trajectory.

He said the government has set up a number of milestones to achieve Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla as the county had already achieved the developing country status last year. I have no doubt that together we can surely build the ‘Sonar Bangla’, the dream of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said.
