Dhaka, Feb 21 : As many as 70 dead bodies were recovered from a fire that broke out at a five-storey building in Chawkbazar area at the old part of Dhaka city.
Inspector general of police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary confirmed the death toll. The fire broke out around 10.40 pm on Wednesday night at a chemical warehouse on the ground floor of the five-storey building named Hazi Wahed Mansion and subsequently tore through four other buildings, trapping dozens of people inside.
The IGP apprehended that the number of death might go up. "There might have more dead bodies inside the building. We are now conducting a search in the burnt building," Javed added.
The fire might have spread in the areas quickly, but the firefighters managed to douse the fire, IGP added. (UNI)
