New York, Feb 8 : A Colombian surgeon, who smuggled surgically implanted liquid heroin inside puppies into the US, was sentenced to six years in prison on Thursday.
The court sentenced 39-year-old Andres Lopez Elorez to prison, after which he will be deported to Colombia, according to ABC news.
He was arrested in Spain and faced trial in federal court in the Eastern District of New York.
He was also accused of betraying a veterinarian's pledge to prevent animal abuse, in addition to his role in drug trafficking.
Moreover, the dogs would have to undergo surgery twice to load and separate the drugs.(UNI)
