London, Feb 6 : UK cabinet ministers held secret discussions to delay the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union by eight weeks.
Currently, the United Kingdom is scheduled to leave the European Union on March 29, The Telegraph news outlet reported. But ministers want Brussels to agree to a two-month "grace period" after March 29, if UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s deal passes through parliament to provide extra time for necessary legislation, the newspaper reported late on Tuesday.
An eight-week delay would postpone Brexit to May 24. While London and Brussels have agreed on a withdrawal deal, it has not yet been approved by UK lawmakers, which has prompted fears both in Brussels and in London of a no-deal Brexit.
The House of Commons is reportedly expected to vote on a revamped Brexit deal on around February 14. UNI
