Ankara, Feb 6 : The Turkish parliament has approved the extension of the task of the Turkish naval forces in the Gulf of Aden, Somalia, and the Arabian Sea.
The parliament on Tuesday approved in its meeting the presidential memorandum, which provides for the extension of the Turkish naval forces in the areas mentioned, an additional year, effective 10 February, according to a QNA report.
The memorandum pointed out that Turkish naval forces are carrying out tasks aimed at the safety of Turkish ships and commercial vessels, which passes from the areas mentioned.
It also noted that the Turkish naval personnel was actively participating in the joint operations of the international community to combat piracy, armed robberies and to contribute to the fight against terrorism in the sea, within the framework of relevant United Nations resolutions. (UNI)
