Ouagadougou, Feb 5 : The Burkinabe army said on Monday night that it "killed 146 terrorists" in three areas after an armed attack on a village that killed 14 civilians in northern Burkina Faso.
A statement of the General Staff of Army said that a terrorist attack from late Sunday to Monday in Kain, Yatenga Province caused 14 civilian casualties among the population.
It said that in response to this attack, the Defence and National Security Forces immediately began operations in three areas against the militants, which killed 146 terrorists.
The army chief of staff "wishes to reassure the population on the determination of the defence and security forces to secure the national territory and ensure the protection of people and property," said the statement.
Burkina Faso has been confronted since 2015 with a resurgence of terrorist attacks on its territory, particularly in regions near its borders with Mali, Niger and Benin.
