New York, Feb 3: A call for accountability and protection for national minorities in Myanmar will be made in a two-day conference in New York to be held on February 8 and 9, the FRC (Free Rohingya Coalition) said in a statement on Friday.
The FRC is a leading global activist group led by and for the Rohingya people.
The world renowned scholars, UN envoys, activists and refugees will be a part of this conference.
This is a rare convergence of academics and activists hailing from and with expertise on Myanmar, with humanitarians and international criminal law practitioners," it added, reports Anadolu agency.
Since Aug. 25, 2017, nearly 24,000 Rohingya Muslims have been killed by Myanmar’s state forces, according to a report by the Ontario International Development Agency (OIDA)
Myanmar’s stability is increasingly important to U.S. interests given Myanmar’s strategic importance in Southeast Asia, vast natural resources, and emerging democratic government. (UNI)
