Samarkand, Jan 13: Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and her counterpart Uzbek Foreign Ministers Abdulaziz Kamilov discussed during a meeting in Samarkand plan to launch transit transport corridors through Afghanistan.

Swaraj arrived in Samarkand to attend the first India-Central Asia ministerial meeting with the participation of Afghanistan, which opens on Sunday, a spokesperson for the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

"The ministers spoke in favor of developing cooperation in the transport and communications sphere, including the launch of trans-Afghan transit corridors," the spokesperson said, adding that this issue is planned to be discussed at the ministerial meeting.

He also said that the two ministers expressed confidence that the new format of interaction between the Central Asian countries and India would consolidate efforts to strengthen and expand cooperation, and open up new opportunities for the development of each of the participating countries.

The ministers also discussed the practical aspects of the upcoming participation of the Uzbek delegation in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019 scheduled for January 18-20 and the planned summit talks, the spokesperson added.UNI
