Pak govt. notices to 294 people named in Panama Papers

The Pakistan government officials have sent notices to 294 people named in Panama papers.

A total of 444 Pakistani nationals were named in the Panama Papers leak. But, the authorities could not trace at least 150 while four had given up their Pakistani nationalities. It is learnt that the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has decided to take strong action against the issue.

According to the finance minister’s written reply, 15 cases collectively worth Rs10.9 billion were in the final stage of the investigation. The authorities had managed to recover Rs6.2 billion. Elaborating measures taken by the government, Minister of State for Revenue Hammad Azhar said the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) had acquired financial records of 96,000 Pakistanis abroad.

The accounts also included those mentioned in Panama Leaks. He blamed the previous government of shying from launching an investigation against 242 named in the leaks. “The Imran Khan-led government has initiated inquiries,” he added.
