Kabul, Nov 5: At least 13 members of Afghanistan's security forces have been killed in a battle at Ghazni Province about 150 kilometers southwest from here on Monday.

Mohammad Arif Noori, a spokesman for Ghazni’s provincial governor, said that the battle began early on November 5 when Taliban militants attacked a checkpoint in the Khogyani district near the provincial capital.

Six Afghan police and seven soldiers in the Afghan National Army were killed and four other police officers were wounded during the operation.

The Afghan security forces managed to kill six Taliban fighters and wounded 10 others in the three hour battle, said rfe/rl in a report quoting Noori.

The checkpoint had been set up in a strategic area on November 3 in an attempt to cut off a supply route used by the Taliban. (UNI)
