Sri Lankan parliament to reconvene on Nov 14

Colombo, Nov 5: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has called for parliament to be reconvened on the 14th of November at 10.00 am drawing sharp criticism from the country's sacked prime minister which decried it as "too late".

The gazette in this regard was issued on Sunday amid mounting pressure to let legislators hold a vote.The Parliament has been convened as per the powers vested with the President according to paragraph 3/1 of article 70 of the constitution of the democratic socialist republic of Sri Lanka, government's official news portal said.

The Sri lankan parliament was prorogued on Oct 27 and start of the next session was scheduled for November 16 in a political maneuvering by President Maithripala Sirisena that likely to deepened the constitutional and economic crisis in the island nation already reeling under debt payments. (UNI)
