South Carolina, Oct 4: Seven law enforcement officers from the US, were shot at in the US leaving one of them dead, in South Carolina, officials said.
The city police of Florence was responding to a call for help from the sherrif's office, a report in BBC said. In an impasse which lasted for two hours, a gunman had taken children as hostages, who later surrendered and the children were taken to the hospital.
The identity of the gunman has not yet been established and the cause behind his actions remains unclear. Quoting South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, US President Donald Trump tweeted about the shooting.
The Officer Down Memorial Page lists the names of 23,408 US police officers who have been killed in the line of duty, the number being 112 so far for the present year, BBC report added.
