Ottawa, Oct 4: Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi was stripped of her Canadian honorary citizenship.
The unprecedented step was taken over Aung San Suu Kyi's refusal to call out atrocities by her nation's military against the Rohingya Muslim minority, reported Financial Times. The Burmese leader has become the first person to be revoked of the symbolic honour.
The country’s Senate voted to strip her of the honour following a vote by the House of Commons to approve the same motion last week. Canadian lawmakers described the violence against them as a "genocide" in a resolution passed in September. (UNI)
