Prague, (Czech Republic) Sep 7: President Ram Nath Kovind arrived here on the final leg of his visit to three European countries. He is the fifth Indian President to visit the country, and the first since President Shankar Dayal Sharma visited it in 1996.
In his address to the Indian Community, he said that India will have an important role in the 21st century. 'Wherever you may be living, you will feel the impact of this role, you will feel the impact of rising India,' he said.
'Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose visited Prague and spent some time here. In his quest for freedom for his motherland, he founded the Indo-Czech Association in Prague in 1934,' he observed on his twitter handle.
He also observed that Bata, a brand with which Indians have grown up and which Indians consider their own, has its roots in the Czech Republic. 'Thomas Bata founded the shoe company. And from here it spread,' he said.
Kolkata-born conductor of India-Czech Sinfonietta Orchestra, Debashis Chowdhry, held a special concert for the President at the Indian community reception.The Indian National Anthem was played by the Czech musicians as a special gesture.They also crooned Hindi film songs including Kishore Kumar’s “Pal pal dil ke paas, tum rehti ho” (‘you are close to my heart every moment').
