Kathmandu, Aug 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a bilateral meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina here.
Both the leaders met on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit that got underway here. "A fraternal relationship anchored in history, culture, language and shared values! In a warm bilateral meeting between PM Narendra Modi and PM of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, both leaders took stock of the bilateral relationship," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
Notably, this was the first meeting between Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and India since the high volatile National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue related to 'alleged immigrants' from Bangladesh has snowballed into a major political issue in Assam and others states like West Bengal.
Earlier Mr Modi also held bilateral talks with the Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena here. (UNI)
