Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif has nominated his brother Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif as party's candidate for the prime minister in the 2018 parliamentary elections.
The announcement came following a party meeting at the ousted prime minister's residence, according to the media report on Thursday. "Shehbaz has never opposed my opinion. He has vast administrative experience," Sharif was quoted as saying.
On July 28, the Supreme Court had disqualified Nawaz for failing to declare an unclaimed salary from a Dubai-based company for his son, as an asset when filing his nomination papers in 2013.
Following the ouster, Shehbaz was to succeed Nawaz. However, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was later nominated to be the prime minister.Insiders said the decision will be formalised in the coming days following a consensus in the party.
