Father Tom Uzhunnalil has been freed from his captivity of 18 months. He was captured by the ISIS and since then the Kerala Government and Government of India have been pursuing the case for his release. Due credit must be given to Sushma Swaraj, Minister External Affairs ,who has persistently worked for Father Tom’s release.
Father Tom was in captivity in Yemen and there were reports of his failing health which caused much concern. Father Tom was a popular missionary and was well known for his charitable works. At the time of his capture he was with the Missionaries of Charity. His 18 month ordeal has finally ended and India rejoices at his return. He is expected to reach Rome on Tuesday night.
Sushma Swaraj tweeted 'I am happy to inform that Fr Uzhunnalil has been freed'.
Fr. Uzhunnalil thanked God for his release.
