Kangra, Mar 19 : All temples, forts and ASI monuments here including the famous Kangra Fort were closed on Thursday for the visitors to avoid huge gatherings in view of the Coronavirus outbreak. Archaeological Survey of India sources said that Kangra Fort, Masroor Rock temple, Shiva Temple at Baijnath, Ashapuri temple and Elgin Tomb at McLeodganj were closed as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the virus.
They said that these monuments have been closed for the first time ever since taken over the Archaeological Survey of India. The Kangra Fort situated at the hilltop on the confluence of Manjhi and Banganga rivers at Old Kangra and has been a major tourist attraction as it has witnessed many invasions in history, looks deserted following closure of the fort, they further said.
The present season remains the peak season for visitors to visit this fort as Chaitra Navratri is scheduled to start from March 25 and after the culmination of the examinations the people used to visit here but now neither national nor the International tourists were allowed to visit this fort, the sources added., (UNI)
