Shimla, Jan 5: Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy snowfall and rain in mid and high reaches of Himachal Pradesh during the next two days and widespread rain or snow at most places in the state.
The Met office attributes inclement weather due to western disturbances which would intensify in the next 24 hrs. During the past 24 hrs, tourist resort Kufri had 10 cm snow, Shimla & Bijahi in Mandi six cm each, Kothi in Lahaul Spiti three cm, Janjehli in Mandi two cm and Mashobra in Shimla one mm.
High reaches of Lahaul Spiti including Rohtang pass, Lady of Keylong, Seren sisters hill, Kunzum pass, Shikari Devi of Mandi, Churdhar of Shimla experienced moderate spell of snow which blocked many roads.
Mandi & Sundernagar had 11 mm rainfall each, Banjar in Kullu, Palampur in Kangra & Baldwara in Mandi eight mm each, Pandoh-five mm, Gohar four mm, Sarkaghat, Bhuntar and Kullu & Seobagh three mm each and Renuka in Sirmaur two mm.
Minimum temperature of many towns was sub zero in the state and in minus. Keylong was the coldest at minus 11.6 degrees, Kalpa in Kinnaur minus 7.5 degrees and 4.5 degrees on Saturday. Tourist resort Manali & Kufri-minus five degrees each and Manali was 3.8 degrees.
