Shimla: Congress candidate in Dharmashala Vijay Inder Karan on Thursday lost his security deposit in the bypolls in Himachal Pradesh.
He failed to get the required one-sixth of total votes polled. Karan managed to get only 8212 votes out of the valid 5,2485 votes polled. That comes only around 15.64 per cent votes. But to save his deposit, he needed to get 16.67 percent of votes.
The main contest was between BJP candidate Vishal Nehria and rebel candidate Rakesh Kumar, who contested as an independent. Nehra won the election by a margin of 6,758 votes.
