Shimla, Aug 28: Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to recruit multipurpose task workers for the purpose of maintaining and keeping the school campus clean in the state.

This was stated by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur in Assembly on Wednesday during the Question Hour while intervening into a query raised by Col Inder Singh. The Chief Minister said though his government was receiving application to assign water carriers to schools in cleaning work but its against the rules.

''Department could not forced the water carrier to work as campus cleaning and other works than providing drinking water in the schools. The water carrier were recruited in the schools campus in 1990 when most of schools did not have facility of tap waters. '' he said.

Since every campus were equipped with the tap drinking water now, provisions of water carrier seemed not more relevant and cadre was declared redundant by the department.

Thus, Government would come with a new policy to make provisions to fill up MPTWs instead of Water carrier, the CM said.

Earlier replying to this query, Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said that about 366 posts of water carrier were laying vacant in Elementary and Higher Secondary schools which include 271 in the primary schools and 95 in the higher secondary.

He informed that process of filling of 366 vacant posts of water carrier has commenced since January 17, despite the issue being challenged in the High court and now pending in the Supreme Court.

The Minister said that court did not stay the recruitment of these posts therefore government decided to fill up these posts. He said that only one posts was filed after its notification since January. The Education Minister said that after the eight years service, water carriers are being regularized and this posts become dying cadre in such schools.

He said that government would come out with new policy to recruit the Multipurpose Task Workers as issue is under consideration before the department. (UNI)
