Shimla, Aug 18 : Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited on Sunday closed down the production of 3500 Megawatt (MW) power project after rising of water level in the dams and rivers and shooting up of silt level above permissible limit.
State government spokesman and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited NJPC power plant head Sanjeev Sood confirmed that production of 3500 MW power project including 1500 MW of Nathpha Jhakari and 412 MW power project at Rampur, 1300 MW power plant in Wangto and 100 MW power plant in Sainj of Kullu district shut down with rising of water level and silt upto 8000 ppm from permissible limit of 5000 ppm in the Nathpa dam of the project.
The water level and silt increased owing to the flood in the Bhaba river a tributary of Satluj, up stream power project of NJPC, 1300 MW JSW Wangto have also closed down due to rising of silt level.
Due to increasing trend of silt content in the Satluj River, Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station may shut down and excess water more than 1500 cumecs will be released through the radial gates of Nathpa Dam, Mr Sood said.
Discharge at Barrage site of Sainj HEP(100MW) has increased to 140 cumecs in water quantity silt content to 1800 ppm all the discharge is being released through radial gates.
He said that this will raise the water level in the Satluj River and Beas river directing the people to stay away from the water bank. (UNI)
