Three parked vehicles on Mall road were challaned: Police

Shimla, Jul 22: Himachal Pradesh government decided to implement New Motor vehicle Act on Tuesday, which was amended recently by the Parliament.

However, the state witnessed a slew of protests and blatant violations by the mighty people as three VIP vehicles founded parked on the Mall road and Indira Gandhi Sports Complex which went viral on social media. SP Shimla OP Jamwal, who accepted the breach of traffic violations by some VIP bearing Haryana number, replied in the response that he didn't allow parking on Mall road as blamed on some WhatsApp group.

"Rules are rules and are equally applicable to all of us. Checked with traffic staff and they conveyed that it is already challaned. " Mr Jamwal said, added, "He assured that the matter would be inquired."

"No permission was given to this vehicle by me nor it is in my powers to do so," he clarified.  Earlier, on Monday, members of District Bar Association staged’dharna’ in front of Bioleanganj police station demanding movements of lawyers’ vehicles on the restricted road.

Agitated lawyers alleged that Vehicle of common man and lawyer are not allowed on the restricted road.

Meanwhile, State police decided to enforce the new motor vehicle Act on Tuesday in the state also drawing sharp reaction from the people.

The challan fee for seat belt has increased many times in the new act moreover it was made compulsory.

SP Shimla said, in Twitter post, that Police would challan those who would not wear the seat belt. He said that Traffic police would launch a special drive to ensure use of seat belt as the drive would be begin in Shimla town first. (UNI)
