Hamirpur, Jul 4: Thousands of men, women and children took part in the annual rath yatra of Lord Jagannath, Maan Subhadra and Lord Baldev here on Thursday.
Amid the singing of religious songs and dancing by devotees, the idols of the deities were taken in a beautifully decorated chariot to Dangri math of the Gauriya sect from temple of Lord Satyanarain. It covered a distance of about 22 kilometers, one of the longest journeys of yatris in the history.
It was flagged off by Mahant Rakesh Prashad of the local Satya Narain temple where the week-long Bhagwat katha was organised. Prior to this, the people thronged the ancient temple to pay their obeisance.
The idols of Lord Jagannath, Maan Subhadra and Lord Baldev were especially brought to Hamirpur from Dangri Math in the early hours.The seven-day Bhagwat Katha by Swami Vishnu Prashad ji Maharaj, head of the Dangri temple, also concluded today. (UNI)
