Shimla, June 4: Windstorm in the last two to three hours paralysed normal life in eight districts of Himachal Pradesh knocking down tree branches, blowing away roofs, disrupting power supply and damaging Apple, Pears, stone fruits and Mango ripening crops in the state.
Weather vagaries comprising heat waves, dust dark windstorm, lightning and thunder shower crippled normal life in Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Solan, Shilmla, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Chamba district.
The windstorm with a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour for the last two to three hours blew away sheds and roofs of schools and cowsheds.Reports say roof top of Chanan School building in Banjar and kitchen room of Shalwar school in Kullu district, were blown away by the windstorm.
Many cowsheds in Shimla and Solan district were washed away by the windstorm. In Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Mandi district mangoes from the trees dropped down. In Kullu Pomegranate, Pears, Apple and stone fruit were damaged by the wind and hailstorm.
Even power supply was disrupted for hours. Barring few places, dry conditions continued plummeting mercury by two to three degrees. Bhoranj area and Tonidevi in Hamirpur were lashed by rainfall , light rain also lashed Mandi and Kullu district.
On Monday, maximum temperature recorded 41 degrees in Una, 39 degrees in Bilaspur, 36.4 degrees in Kangra, 37.5 degrees in Sundernagar in Mandi, 36.4 degrees in Hamirpur, 36 degrees in Bhuntar, 35.1 degrees in Solan 27.9 degrees in Shimla, Dalhousie and Kalpa 24 degrees and Keylong 20.5 degrees.
The Met Office has forecast rain and thunder showers in isolated places in the state on Tuesday and in the next 24 hrs.Warning of windstorm has also been issued for the next two days in the state. (UNI)
