Shimla, Apr 21 : Bharatiya Janata Party rebel Mohinder Nath Sofat here on Saturday returned to saffron party fold.
Mr Sofat left the BJP in 2000 over the feud over assembly ticket with the Speaker of Vidhan Sabha Rajiv Bindal.
Mr Sofat joined the BJP with much fun-fare along with his supporters. He was welcomed by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur in the BJP at State Guest House at Peterhof by offering him party membership.
He was Cabinet Minister in Shanta Kumar-led Government from 1990 to 1993. However, when denied party ticket from Solan assembly in 2000 by erstwhile P K Dhumal-led government, Mr Sofat left the BJP and contested as an Independent from Solan. He was defeated by Rajiv Bindal who made his political debut that time.
Mr Sofat formed the Himachal Pradesh Lokhit Party in 2012 along with former BJP rebel Mehaishwer Singh. However, his party only won a single seat on which Mr Singh contested. After his election, Mr Singh returned in the BJP, thus dissolving the HLP.
Later, Mr Mohinder Nath Sofat and Shayam Sharma joined Aam Aadmi Party in 2016.
He was without any party banner after 2017, as AAP dissolved its state unit. (UNI)
