Shimla, Mar 30 : Shimla-based public welfare trust Umang Foundation, on Friday regretted mentioning of name of Cancer Aids Society Lucknow in a new items issued on March 17, 2017 to the media, which also appeared in UNI. Chairman of Umang Foundation Ajai Srivastava said in a clarification issued over the statement that he regrets mentioning of name of Cancer Aid Society Lucknow in the news item.

He said that a letter wrote by Umang Foundation to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, demanding action against some NGOs and complaining against them of indulging in funds collection through the government school students, was based on personal experience. Mr Srivastava said that he had no intention of defaming the society, as the students collecting donation in the name of cancer patients mislead him and also misquoted the Cancer Aid Society.

He also got a call recently from Dr Piyush Gupta from the Cancer Aid Society Lucknow, to clarify the position of his organisation. Appreciating the services of Cancer Aid Society Lucknow in the field of Cancer Awareness in the country, he said that he had no malafide intention to defame the said Society, however, he wants action against only those NGOs, which gave a bad name to the NGO sector and good organisations like CAS.

''Since I never intended to harm or defame the CAS, Lucknow, I deeply regret the inconvenience caused,'' he added. UNI also regrets mentioning of name of CAS in its story, based upon the press statement of Umang  Foundation, which appeared in some newspapers, websites and portals. (UNI)
