Fresh snowfall on high reaches, rains bring chill back in HP

Shimla, Mar 3 : Fresh snowfall on the high reaches of Himachal Pradesh, following widespread rainfall across the state disrupted the normal life of the people during last 24 hours.

Kothi in Lahaul Spiti got 45 cm snow till 0830 hrs on Sunday, followed by Kalpa in Kinnaur 23 cm, Khadrala in Shimla 21 cm, Keylong in Lahaul Spiti & Sumdo in Kinnuar 10 cm each, Pooh eight cm, tourist resort Manali & Dalhousie-7 mm each and Chhatrari in Chamba 6 cm.

High reaches experienced moderate to heavy snowfall disrupting normal life in the state. Lahaul Spiti is the mostly affected place by snowfall and the emergency helicopter services are frequently being suspended due to inclement weather.

Tourist resort Manali had 35 mm rainfall followed by Bharwain in Bilaspur 31 mm, Dharamshala in Kangar 28 mm, Sarahan in Shimla 25 mm, Saloni in Chamba 23 mm, Jogindernagar in Mandi & Palampur in Kangra 22 mm each, Shimla 19 mm, Naina Devi in Bilaspur 18 mm, Gaggal, Baijnath in Kangra and Bhuntar in Kullu 17 mm each.

Other places include Baldwara in Mandi with 16 mm, followed by Nahan in Sirmaur, Kasauli in Shimla & Bijahi in Mandi 15 mm each, Una 14 mm , Mandi, Dharmpur, Bangana in Una, Mehre in Kangra, Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur 13 mm each minimum temperature of Keylong was minus 9.8 degrees, Kalpa minus 2.8 degrees, Manali and Kufri minus 1.4 degrees each, Dalhousie minus 0.2 degrees, Shimla 2.5 degrees, Dharamshala 4.8 degrees, Nahan 4.9 degrees, Bhuntar five degrees, Solan and Mandi six degrees each, Sundernagar seven degrees Chamba 7.4 degrees, Una 8.4 degrees, Kangra and Hamirpur 9.1 degrees and Bilaspur 9.4 degrees.

The Met Office forecast rain or snowfall at many places in the mid and high reaches and rain in few places in next 24 hrs. (UNI)
