Barring Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur mainly dry weather in Himachal

Shimla , Feb 24 : Weather was mainly dry and Sunny in most part of this hill state however light snowfall occurred during last 24 hrs in the Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti.

With mainly dry weather and sunshine people took respite from prolonged coldwave and inclement weather however people living in the tribal areas especially in Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu and Chamba is still facing the rough weather condition as more than 33 avalanches struck these district and most of roads are snowbound.

Met Office recorded three cm fresh snowfall till 8.30am in Kalpa of Kinnaur district, Kothi in Lahaul Spiti had one cm snowfall, rest of state was mainly dry but partly cloudy. People took respite from extreme cold wave as mercury improvised in the state and snow were cleared in many road.

Despite the war footing search operation in Nambai Dogri post of Kinnaur district More than 220 jawans are still clueless despite using Sniffer dog and thermal radar to trace out missing five Soldiers who are missing since last Wednesday.

Meanwhile few more avalanches wreaked havoc in Tinku Nalah in Kinnaur and Solang Nalaha near Manali recorded major avalanches disrupting vehicular traffic. Two videos of avalanche rolling down heap of snow, boulders and muck on the road became viral in social media.

Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment Manali sound high alert as the frequency of avalanches likely to increase in the end of Feb and March. People are advised to remained in their home and not go to avalanche prone areas.

Heavy avalanche blocked the flow of Chenab River when at Tralokinath near Udaipur in Lahaul Spiti district. Avalanche created a huge lake for more than 30 hours, Official source said.

Meanwhile Minimum temperature shows slight increase as Keylong in Lahaul Spiti was at minus 7.2 degrees Kalpa in Kinnaur at minus four degrees, tourist resort Manali and Dalhousie were at 2.5 degrees, Solan 5.2degrees Shimla 5.5 degrees, Dharamshala 5.8 degrees, Nahan in Sirmuar 7.2 degrees Chamba 7.3 degrees and Una 7.7 degrees.

Minimum temperature of Kangra 8.4 degrees, Sundernagar 8.7 degrees, Mandi and Bhuntar in Kullu nine degrees.

The Met Office issued warning of heavy rain, snowfall and hailstorm in part of state on Feb 26 and rain and snowfall at most places . The Met office forecast rain or snowfall in few places in the next 24 hrs. (UNI)
