Rain, snowfall lash Himachal

Shimla, Feb 22: Rain and snowfall lashed several parts of Himachal during last 24 hours, disrupting normal life at many places, officials said here on Friday.

However the Met office has predicted mainly dry weather in next 24 hours. The MeT Office recorded about 23 cm fresh snow fall in Keylong till 8.30 am, while four cm in Kalpa, Kothi in Lahaul Spiti 10 cm, Khadrala in Shimla three cm and Pooh in Kinnaur two cm.

High reaches of Kinnuar, Chamba, Shimla, Kullu and Lahaul Spiti got moderate to heavy snowfall, looming danger of avalanches in the many snowline areas. Rescue operation to trace out the missing five bodies of 7-J& K jawan at Dogari Post in Kinnuar district started today after improvement in heavy snowfall and Blizzards in the regions for last 24 hrs. 200 jawans were deployed to dig out the bodies from avalanches struck on Thursday.

High reaches of Chamba also got moderate to heavy snowfall. Most areas of Pangi, Bharmour and Satingri got four to five feet fresh snowfall in last two days. Bharwain in Una and Kothi in Lahaul Spiti 75 mm ,Saloni in Chamba 65 mm, Bharmour 50 mm, Janjehli in Mandi, Palampur in Kangra had 45 mm , Baijnath in Kangra 42 mm, Jogaindernagar in Mandi 36 mm, Dharmshala a 32 mm, Chamba received 30 mm, Bhoranj in Hamirpur Bhuntar 26 mm Bajaura , Mandi and Nadaun in Hamirpur and Rampur in Shimla 23 cm, Mehre in Kangra and Jhandutta in Bilaspur 20 mm, Gohar and Pandoh in Mandi and Gaggal in Kangra 17 mmeach, Kangra 16.6 mm, Una, Kalpa in Kinnuar and Jubberhati in Shimla, Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpur 16 mm, Una 15.6 mm, Nagrota Suriyan and Dehra Gopipur in Kangra, Arki in Solan and Sunni Bhajji in Shimla 14 mm each, Sundernagar in Mandi 11 mm, Mashobra and Rohru 10 mm, Shimla 7.3 mm and tourist resort Kufri six mm respectively.

Western disturbances have become active in the state after February 24 which is likely to keep the inclement weather condition unchanged. (UNI)
