More snowfall on high reaches, SASE issues avalanche warning

Shimla, Feb 16: High reaches of Himachal Pradesh experienced snowfall and rain, disrupting life in this hill state and increasing the cold wave again.

Tourist resort Dalhousie in Chamba recorded 24 cm snowfall, Keylong in Lahaul Spiti nine cm, Kalpa in Kinnaur and Kufri in Shimla seven cm each, while Manali received three cm. Kothi in Lahaul Spiti got 30 cm snowfall, while Khadrala in Shimla registered eight cm and Pooh four cm.

Most high peaks in Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur, Shimla and Chamba had moderate to heavy snowfall.

Jogindernagar in Mandi had 37 mm rainfall, Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur and Kheri in Chamba registered 26 mm each, Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpur got 25 mm, Baldwara in Mandi, Nadaun in Hamirpur and Palampur in Kangra 23 mm each, while Baijnath recorded 22 mm.

Dharamshala in Kangra and Hamirpur received 21 mm rain each, Nadaun and Aghar 20 mm each, Arki in Solan and Gaggal in Kangra 19 cm each, Renuka in Sirmaur 18 mm, Gohar in Mandi, while Bhuntar in Kullu and Sarkaghat in Mandi registered 17 mm each.

Seobagh in Kullu recorded 15 mm, Mehre in Kangra and Bhorang in Hamirpur 14 mm each, Banja in Kullu, Jubbal Hatti in Shimla and Solan 12 mm each, Rajgarh and Sangarah, Bajaura in Kullu and Shimla 11 mm each, Naina Devi in Bilaspur, while Kotkhai and Mashobra in Shimla recorded 10 mm each.

Minimum temperature of Keylong in Lahaul Spiti registered minus 12.8 degrees, Kalpa minus 5.6 degrees, Manali minus 1.8 degrees, Kufri minus 1.5 degrees, Dalhousie 1.5 degrees, Shimla 2.9 degrees, Chamba 3.5 degrees, Dharamshala 3.6 degrees and Mandi recorded 3.8 degrees.

Minimum temperature of Bhuntar in Kullu registered four degrees, Solan five degrees, Sundernagar 5.3

degrees, Nahan 5.5 degrees, Kangra six degrees, Hamirpur 7.2 degrees, Bilaspur 7.3 degrees and Una 8.2 degrees, respectively.

With improvement of weather in snowline areas, the Snow and Avalanches Study Establishment in Manali warned the residents over the possibility of avalanches in Chamba, Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur districts.

The Met Office has forecast rain or snowfall at few parts of mid and high reaches, isolated parts of foothills and many parts of mid and high reaches and few parts in the foothills on Sunday and Monday. The warning of heavy rain or snowfall is issued on February 19 and 20 in the state again. (UNI)
