Shimla, Sep 10: The call for Bharat bandh against spiralling fuel prices in Himachal Pradesh evoked a mixed response with majority of the shops downing their shutters in big towns like Shimla and private buses not plying, while banks and financial institutions functioning normally since Monday morning.
Several shops and business establishments remained non-functional. While prominent hotels and restaurants like Baljees, Alpha and Himani did not open, small eateries were doing business. No private buses plied on any route in the state crippling the transport services. All the Himachal Pradesh Road Transport buses were on their route but crowded and overload due to following of call of Bharatbànd by Pvt transport services. Banks and other financial institutions are functioning in the state as Bank union already observed a strike last week.
HRTC could not provide additional buses to negate the impact of the 'bandh'. So far, there is no report of any untoward incident. Students, Employees and commuters have to toil hard as they have to wait for bus service for long time. Congress State president Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that they have kept the essential services and ambulances out of the call so that needy people did not suffer.
The Congress party giving a bandh call today decided to observe bandh from 0930 hrs to 1430 hrs in the state. The private transport rejected BJP government's appeal to not to join the call . (UNI)
