New Delhi, Sep 30 : Excessive consumption of alcohol is a major risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD), say doctors.
In the past three decades, there has been a 300 per cent increase in the incidence of coronary artery disease (CAD) among Indians.
About two to six per cent of those affected live in rural India and four to 12 per cent in urban India.
Among other things, lifestyle factors such as increased consumption of alcohol can exacerbate the risk of acquiring CAD, especially those with a family history of the condition.
Excessive alcohol consumption can cause a buildup of plaque in the arteries, a condition known as atherosclerosis. (UNI)
