Chandigarh, May 14 : In a series of economic packages by Union Finance Ministry, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP), announced in March, has been providing needed succour to the poor in the region as it helps the poor to cope up with effects of lockdown due to COVID-19.
As a part of the package, the Union Government is providing free food grains and cash payment to women and poor senior citizens and farmers, a communique said here on Thursday. Rajjo from Haryana said that she has received Rs 500 in her account and this will supplement her expenses. One Mira Bai, after drawing money from her account, said she will use this money to buy household items. As farmers are the beneficiaries under the relief package, a farmer in Haryana said that Rs 2000 which he has received under PM-KISAN will help him in buying seeds and fertilizers. Kaushalya Devi from Haryana said getting a gas cylinder has helped her a lot.
A beneficiary under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, she also said earlier using wood to cook food caused a lot of problems due to smoke. Now, she has ample time as food cooks fast with a gas cylinder. Sharing the same concern, Santo, while thanking the central government, said using wood as fuel had the risk of getting diseases. Now, she is using a cylinder to cook her food. Gas cylinders have also been provided to beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana under the relief package. As PMGKP ensures the interests of the poor, continuing its fight against COVID-19, the Union Government on two consecutive days, yesterday and today, announced measures especially for MSMEs and migrant labour.
