Hisar, June 11: Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) has been conferred the Best Centre Award (2018) in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the development of high yielding varieties of Mungbean.
CCSHAU Vice-Chancellor Prof KP Singh, while giving this information here on Tuesday, said development of high yielding, disease resistant, early maturing and short duration crop varieties suitable for intensive cropping systems is a continuous process at this university.
The scientists of Pulses Section of the University have developed as many as 34 varieties of various pulse crops like mungbean (6), chickpea (15), fieldpea (7), lentil (3), pigeonpea (2) and urdbean (1) for cultivation in different states of India during different seasons.
Recently, one variety of Mungbean (MH 1142) and two varieties of Chickpea (HC 6 and HC 7) have been identified for release which will be released and notified soon.
MH 1142 has been identified for cultivation in North West and North East Plain Zones of India, whereas HC 6 has been identified for cultivation in Haryana and HC 7 for cultivation in North West Plain Zone of the country. (UNI)
