Heat wave : Haryana advises people to stay safe

Chandigarh, Jun 2: In view of the increasing heat wave and extreme weather conditions these days, Haryana government issued advisory to people to adopt precautionary measures to stay safe, a Revenue and Disaster Management Department spokesperson said on Sunday.
The heat wave conditions can result in physiological strain, which could lead to various ailments and to minimize the impact and to prevent serious ailments because of heat stroke, various measures should be adopted, he further said.
He advised the people to drink sufficient water as often as possible, even if not thirsty and wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose fitting and porous cotton clothes.
He also advised to carry water while travelling and use protective sunglasses, umbrella, pagri, dupatta or hats.
The spokesman stated that using Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), home-made drinks such as lassi, lemon water and buttermilk will help to rehydrate the body.
He guided to recognise the signs of heat stroke, heat rash or heat cramps such as weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, sweating and seizures and if one feels faint or ill, he or she should visit a doctor immediately.
Animals should be kept in shade and giving them plenty of water to drink.
He said that cool drinking water near work place should be provided and direct sunlight and schedule strenuous jobs should be avoided during the daytime.Pregnant workers and workers with a medical condition should be given additional attention, he added. (UNI)
