Chandigarh, Apr 23 : Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, Haryana Police conducted a series of raids that lead to the seizure of 425.5 boxes of illicit liquor including IMFL (Indian-made foreign liquor), 24 boxes of beer, 130 gram sulfa, 70 gram ganja, 7 illegal pistols, 5 cartridges from different parts in the state on a single day and booked nineteen persons in this connection.
Apart from this, the police have also arrested a notorious criminal carrying a reward of Rs one lakh and a proclaimed offender.
Stating this here on Tuesday, a spokesman for Police department said that following the directives of Director General of Police Manoj Yadava, a special drive to arrest criminals and to unearth illicit flow of liquor, narcotics and arms had been launched throughout the state to ensure smooth conduct of parliamentary elections.He said that continuing the enforcement drive, police has seized 120.5 boxes of illicit liquor and 24 of beer from Gurugram district, 50 boxes from Faridabad district, 24 from Bhiwani district, 143 boxes from Palwal, 89 from Rewari and 7 boxes from Rohtak district. Similarly, based on the intelligence and other inputs, 130 gram sulfa and 70 gram ganja also seized from Bhiwani.
He said that Crime Investigation Agency in Ambala has nabbed wanted notorious criminal Navjot alias Naini carrying a reward of Rs one lakh. He was wanted since July 8, 2013 in a murder and kidnapping case of a Sarpanch. Police also arrested a person from Sonipat district, who was declared Proclaimed Offenders (POs) by the court. In addition, eleven persons were also nabbed on the charges of possessing illegal weapons from Sonipat, Bhiwani, Palwal and Rohtak districts.
He said that Police teams have intensified patrolling and constantly conducting raids to nab notorious/wanted criminals and unearth of illegal arms, seizure of illicit liquor and narcotics. (UNI)
