Covid 19: Nineteen more deaths, 226 new cases in Gujarat, total number crosses 3700 mark

Gandhinagar, Apr 28: Gujarat reported 19 more deaths and 226 new cases of Novel Corona Virus (Covid 19) infection in last 24 hours taking the overall number of positive cases in the western state to 3774 including the 181 deaths and 434 recoveries so far.

There were 40 new recoveries during the last 24 hours in the state where 30 of the total 33 districts have reported positive cases so far. 29 have recovered in Ahmedabad. Though the total number of new cases was slightly less than yesterday's 247 yet the number of deaths was 8 more than that of yesterday. Two of the jail inmates in the Sabarmati central prison in Ahmedabad have also been tested positive. All the 19 deaths including that of five women were in Ahmedabad. 15 of them had some kind of co-morbidity.

With 164 more new cases Ahmedabad has a total of the maximum 2543 reported positive cases including the 128 deaths and 241 recoveries so far. All the new cases were locals, according to the official bulletin of the health department. Of the total 3159 active cases 34 were on ventilators. Notably, the first case of the Covid19 infection in the state was detected on March 19 in Rajkot while the first death was reported on March 22 in Surat where 19 deaths have been reported so far. Ahmedabad has seen the maximum 128 deaths, Bhavnagar 5, Vadodara 13, Gandhinagar, Panchmahal, Anand 2 each and one each from Patan, Jamnagar, Botad, Kutch, Banaskantha, Aravalli, Valsad and Bharuch.

Among the deceased were 59 women and 64 senior citizens. 38000 people across the state are under the 14 day quarantine. Of the total positive cases 33 had returned from abroad, 34 have travel history inside the country while the remaining 3697 were locals without any out of station travel history. So far a total of 56101 tests have been conducted across the state. In the wake of the increasing number of cases a total of 28 clusters across the state including the maximum 14 of Ahmedabad city, 7 in Rajkot, 3 in Bhavnagar and 2 each in Surat and Vadodara have been put under complete lockdown for cluster quarantine.
