Gandhinagar, Apr 23: Gujarat on Thursday reported nine deaths and 217 cases of the novel coronavirus infection, taking the total number of cases to 2,624 and death toll to 112 with 258 recoveries so far. There were 79 new recoveries in the past 24 hours with 29 out of the total 33 districts having reported positive cases.
The latest entry in the list is Dang district in South Gujarat, as per the state health and family welfare department. Of the nine deaths reported today, seven were in Ahmedabad and one each in Surat and Vadodara. Most of them had co-morbidity. With 151 more new cases, Ahmedabad has a total of the maximum 1,652 reported positive cases including 69 deaths and 113 recoveries so far. All the new cases were locals. Of the remaining cases, 41 were in Surat, 7 in Vadodara. Of the 2,244 active cases, 18 are on ventilators and remaining 2,226 are stable.
Principal Secretary Health, Mrs Jayanti Ravi said that so far a total of 42384 tests have been conducted. Notably, the first case of the COVID-19 infection in the state was detected on March 19 in Rajkot while the first death was reported on March 22 in Surat where 13 deaths have been reported so far. Ahmedabad has seen the maximum 67 deaths, Bhavnagar 5, Vadodara 11, Gandhinagar, Panchmahal 2 each and one each from Anand, Patan, Jamnagar, Botad, Kutch and Aravalli, Valsad and Bharuch. Among the deceased were 40 women and 42 senior citizens. Gandhinagar has now in all 18 cases (including 11 recoveries, 2 death), Vadodara 218 (8 recovered, 53 dead), Rajkot 41 (12 recoveries),
Surat has 456 (12 dead, 13 recovered), Bhavnagar 33 (5 deaths, 18 recovered), Patan 15 (1 death, 11 recoveries), Bharuch 29 (3 recovered,2 death), Anand 30 (9 recovered, 2 death), Banaskantha (one recovery) 16, Panchmahal 12 (2 death), Chhota Udepur (3 recoveries) 11, Aravalli (one death) 18, Mahisagar 9, Narmada 12, Botad (one dead) 11, Mahesana (2 recoveries) 7, Kutch (one dead, one recovery) 6, Dahod and Valsad 4 each Kheda (one recovery) 5, Gir Somnath (two recovered) and Porbandar ( all 3 recovered), Sabarkantha (two recovered) 3 each and one each in Tapi, Morbi, Valsad and Jamnagar (one death), Dang and Navsari. 34,509 people across the state are under the 14-day quarantine. Of the total positive cases 33 had returned from abroad, 34 have travel history inside the country while the remaining 2315 were locals without any out of station travel history.
