Covid-19: 4 more deaths, 108 new cases in Gujarat, total mounts to 1851

Gandhinagar, Apr 20 : Gujarat reported four more deaths and 108 new cases of Novel Coronavirus infection, with 91 in the hot-spot areas of Ahmedabad alone, in last 12 hours taking the overall number of positive cases in the western state to 1851, including 67 deaths and 106 recoveries so far.

There was a single recovery in last 12 hours in Bhavnagar across the state where now 25 of the total 33 districts have reported positive cases so far. Of the four deaths, including that of a woman, reported today, two each were in Ahmedabad and Surat. Three of them had various co-morbidity. With 91 more new cases Ahmedabad has a total of the maximum 1192 reported positive cases including the 34 deaths and 29 recoveries so far. All the new cases were locals.

Of the remaining cases 8 were in Aravalli, two each in Kutch, Panchmahal, Rajkot and Surat and one each in Mahisagar, Vadodara and Mahesana. Of the 1676 active cases 14 are on ventilators,while remaining 1662 are stable. Principal Secretary Health, Ms Jayanti Ravi said so far, a total of 32,204 tests including 3992 in the last 24 hours have been conducted. Notably, the first case of the Covid-19 infection in the state was detected on March 19 in Rajkot while the first death was reported on March 22 in Surat where 10 deaths have been reported so far.

Ahmedabad has seen the maximum 34 deaths, Bhavnagar 4, Vadodara 7, Gandhinagar, Panchmahal 2 each and one each from Anand,Patan, Jamnagar, Botad, Kutch and Aravalli. Among the deceased were 23 women and in all 25 senior citizen. Gandhinagar has now in all 17 cases (including 10 recoveries, 2 death), Vadodara 181 (7 recovered, 8 dead), Rajkot 38 ( 9 recoveries), Surat has 244 ( 10 dead, 11 recovered), Bhavnagar 32 (4 deaths, 16 recovered), Patan 15 (1 death, 11 recoveries), Bharuch 23 (2 recovered, one death) , Anand 28 (3 recovered, 2 death), Narmada 12, Banaskantha (one recovery) 10, Panchmahal 11 (2 death), Chhota Udepur (one recovery), Aravalli (one death) 7 each Botad (one dead) 5 and Mahesana 5 each, Kutch (one dead) 6 each, Mahisagar, Dahod and Porbandar ( all 3 recovered) 3 each, Kheda, Sabarkantha (one recovered) and Gir Somnath (one recovered) -2 each and one each in Morbi and Jamnagar (one death) .

A total of 23749 people across the state are under the 14-day quarantine. Of the total positive cases, 33 had returned from abroad, 34 have travel history inside the country while the remaining 1537 were locals without any out of station travel history. Ms Ravi said that in the wake of the increasing number of cases a total of 28 clusters across the state, including the maximum 14 of Ahmedabad city, 7 in Rajkot, 3 in Bhavnagar and 2 each in Surat and Vadodara have been put under complete lockdown for cluster quarantine. Notably, curfew has been imposed in parts of Ahmedabad city from till April 21 and parts of Surat city till April 22.

These areas were the most affected ones. It is also being imposed in parts of Rajkot city, the home town of the Chief Minister. An MLA of main opposition Congress, Imran Khedawala was detected Covid-19 positive and was hospitalized in Ahmedabad on April 14, hours after a meeting with CM Vijay Rupani who had also gone in to a seven days quarantine since that day.
